KOS and FSF launch fans’ guides for World Cup 2010

06/12/09

Ke Nako - it’s time. According to the motto of next year’s World Cup which is taking place on the African continent for the first time, the Football Supporters Federation (FSF) and the German Coordinating Centre of Fans’ Projects go live with their online fans’ guides for World Cup 2010 together with the World Cup draw on Friday 04 Dec 2009. The English fans’ guide is available via www.fsf.org.uk/worldcup and German fans’ guide can be found via www.fanguide-wm2010.de

The online fans’ guides are the first visible parts of all fan hosting measures and fans’ embassy services that the KOS with support of the German FA and the FSF with support of the British government and the sponsor Nationwide will provide for WC 2010. The “by fans for fans” fans’ guides will prove vital resources for the thousands of fans from England and Germany who are planning to make the journey to South Africa or those who are just looking forward to the tournament or want to improve their Groundhopper knowledge.

The guides will be updated on a regular basis and provide information and advice on all issues relating to a World Cup experience – travel, accommodation, safety, ticketing, and more. And obviously, the host country and cities and the participating teams will be presented, too.

On top of that, the “World Cup at home” section in the German online fans’ guide will present numerous activities for the World Cup 2010 taking place in Germany and collect the info on public viewing provided for those who’ll follow the tournament from their home town, whilst the FSF have their own fans’ blog and a twitter feed.

Apart from the KOS and the FSF, fans’ embassy services for South Africa will also be organized for the Swiss fans. All initiatives are members of the FSE and active in FSE’s Fans’ Embassy department.

FSE will put together all info material provided by our members and partners which is available on the upcoming tournament – it can all be found in the Fans’ Embassy section on our website soon.

Finally, we don’t want to forget to mention some advice from FSE Committee member and FSF’s Director for International Affairs Kevin Miles from England, who has travelled extensively to South Africa over the past months: “More than in other recent tournaments, fans travelling to South Africa should plan ahead. This isn’t Germany, or even Portugal, where a last-minute decision to jump into a car and go, sorting things like accommodation out on arrival, will do.

“Fans would be well advised to make as many of their arrangements as possible well in advance, such as booking accommodation, and deciding how to get between venues. The draw marks the point at which the precise location of at least the first three England games will become known, and this website will provide much of the information needed to start making plans.”
